Enhanced Athlete Supports for 2026

The Canadian Muay Thai Open (CMTO) is proud to introduce our Athlete Care & Recovery Initiative—a tournament-wide commitment to raising the standard of athlete safety, preparedness, and overall well-being.

At CMTO, athlete safety has always been non-negotiable. In partnership with Muay Thai Canada, and Muay Thai Ontario, we operate under one of the most comprehensive and rigorously enforced rule sets in the sport.

These regulations clearly define medical requirements, safety equipment standards, bout supervision, and emergency protocols for all athletes, coaches, and teams.

Building on this strong foundation, CMTO 2026 takes the next step.

Why We Implemented This Initiative

As CMTO continues to grow in scale and participation, so does our responsibility to the athletes who step into the ring. Competition week places unique physical and mental demands on fighters—travel, weight management, high training loads, and performance pressure all converge in a short time frame.

The Athlete Care & Recovery Initiative was created to:

  • Add another layer of proactive support beyond baseline safety requirements

  • Reduce preventable risk through education, preparation, and recovery access

  • Ensure athletes feel supported, valued, and protected throughout the event experience

This initiative reflects our belief that a world-class tournament doesn’t just showcase talent—it actively looks after the people behind it.

Raising the Standard

The CMTO Athlete Care & Recovery Initiative represents a meaningful shift in how amateur and developmental combat sport events can—and should—support athletes. It is an investment in safety, longevity, education, and performance, and it reflects the values we share with Muay Thai Canada/Ontario and the broader Muay Thai community.

CMTO 2026 isn’t just about competition.
It’s about care, responsibility, and setting a higher standard for the future of the sport.
