Youth scrimmage - FEBRUARY 15th

 

CMTO Families & Coaches,

 

We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2026 CMTO Winter Youth Scrimmage, a light-contact exhibition-style Muay Thai tournament proudly run in association with The Canadian Muay Thai Open and Muay Thai Canada, and fully sanctioned by Muay Thai Ontario under the updated Canada Youth Movement rule set.

This event is designed to give young athletes a safe, structured, confidence-building introduction to Muay Thai.


Registration closes once we reach 50 athletes per age group.

🥊 What to Expect

 

Light-contact bouts only — the perfect stepping stone toward full-contact competition.

 

  • No head contact

  • Strikes at 50% power

  • Round Robin format

  • No winners declared — development-focused

  • ✅ Two skill divisions:

    • Novice: 0–10 bouts

    • Open: 10+ bouts (includes all light + full contact experience)

  • Minimum TWO bouts per athlete (we accommodate as best as possible)

 

Each bout consists of:
2 rounds of 1–1.5 minutes (age-dependent) with 1 minute rest.

 

Every participant receives a commemorative medal.

 

 

🧰 Required Athlete Equipment

 

Athletes must bring their own equipment. None will be provided.

 

  • 10oz gloves

  • Foam shin guards

  • Chest protector/vest

  • Open-face headgear

  • Mouth guard

  • Groin protection

Tickets will be available at the door

Adults: $25 

Children (under 12yrs): $15

Registration Fee Breakdown

Early Bird: Valid through November 17th - November 30th (11:59pm): $30

Normal Registration: Valid from December 1st - January 5th (11:59pm): $50

If you are not currently a member of Muay Thai Ontario, pay a $60 sanctioning fee. This is an annual membership, so please ensure yours hasn't expired.

Complete the MTO Medical

Step 3

If you already have a Muay Thai Ontario (MTO) competitive membership, you can continue to the next step. 

 The medical must be less than 1 year old from the start date of the tournament

Completion of the MTO Medical is a requirement for competing in the CMTO Youth Scrimmage

COACHES REGISTRATION

Cornering Passes will be issued on January 19th during morning weigh-ins (7am-9am).

All teams will receive 2 complementary cornering passes. 

Coaches must be registered with Muay Thai Ontario (MTO) to corner athletes.

If your club is already a member of MTO, please proceed to the next step.

Step 3

Complete your background check

Continue to "start your background check now!" for individuals. Please bring a copy of this document (digital or print out) to registration on August 25th.

If you would like to go to your local police department where you reside to complete the check, please email us at info@thecanadianmuaythaiopen.com. We will provide you with a VSV Request Form. 


*If you reside in the United States, request that the police conduct a local or state criminal records search and provide you with a document reflecting that there is no history of a criminal record.*

Tournament Schedule

  • 7:00 AM — Athlete + Coach Check-in

    • All documentation required at check-in

    • Divisions finalized based on weigh-ins

    • Coaches must collect accreditation + complete background check verification

  • 10:00 AM — Mandatory Athlete/Coach Rules Meeting

  • 11:00 AM — Tournament Start​​​​​​​​​​​

Age Divisions:

 

  • Division 1: Ages 6–8

  • Division 2: Ages 9–11

  • Division 3: Ages 12–14

Withdrawals / Injuries / Refund Policy

 

  • NO refunds for any reason, except:
    ✅ If your athlete is the only competitor in their division and no match can be arranged.

  • Parents/coaches are responsible for ensuring attendance.

  • Please notify us immediately if your athlete cannot attend — especially in smaller divisions.

Youth Weight-Cutting Policy

 

To protect young athletes:

 

  • NO weight cutting permitted.

  • Register at true walking weight.

  • Free division transfers permitted up to 1 week before event.

  • At weigh-ins, if an athlete is lighter/heavier, they will be moved automatically — no second attempt.

  • Free until registration closes (1 week before event)

  • Free on tournament day, with transfers allowed only into open divisions
